Our Team

Nancy Harris Frohlich, Director

A teacher and educator since 1972, Nancy has a Master of Education in Child Development from Tufts University. She founded LEAPS of IMAGINATION in 2014, bringing art and social justice experiences to elementary school children in midcoast Maine communities where art has been significantly cut.

Nancy was Head of School at The Advent School, Boston, for 17 years. During her tenure there, she developed and documented the curriculum, founded the school’s Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood program, launched its engineering initiative for elementary school students, and opened the SMART Lab. Prior to her work at The Advent School, Frohlich served for 20 years at the Charles River School as Director of Studies, and teacher of first and third grades. She serves on the Board of Ashwood Waldorf School, and is a member of Advisory Boards at The Advent School, Charles River School, Watershed School and Sweetland School.

  • Dee Peppe
    Dee Peppe Mentor Artist

    Mentor artist, Dee Peppe, founder and director of the Midcoast Community Darkrooms, Rockland, ME, received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Savannah College of Art and Design and has been teaching photography since 1989. Currently a faculty member at the University of Maine, Dee has taught students of all ages. As a fine-art photographer, she has been exhibiting nationally since 1983. Dee serves on the LEAPS of IMAGINATION Advisory Board.

  • Cynthia McGuirl
    Cynthia McGuirl Mentor Artist

    Mentor artist, Cindy McGuirl, is a multimedia craftswoman and teaching artist. She attended the Swain School of Design and the Kansas City Art Institute and ran a hand weaving business, The Dancing Blanket, for 25 years. An interest in a more narrative imagery led her to printmaking and book arts. She directs an after school Art Club and offers adult classes in bookbinding and marbling. Cindy is represented by Vamp & Tramp in Alabama.

  • Alexis Iammarino
    Alexis Iammarino Lead Artist

    Lead Artist for LEAPS of IMAGINATION, Alexis is an ardent supporter of year-round arts initiatives, including public and mural arts efforts in midcoast Maine. A graduate of Goucher College with a Masters from Maryland Institute College of Art, Alexis is the Director of Education at Steel House, a teaching artist for Rockland’s RASA (Arts in Action) and the Farnsworth Museum, and the lead artist for ARTLab at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.

  • Sandy Weisman
    Sandy Weisman Mentor Artist

    Mentor artist, Sandy Weisman  is a book maker, mixed media artist, and poet. Her interest in artists’ books comes from a fascination with words and images as active objects to be handled and used. With degrees from George Washington University and Massachusetts College of Art, Sandy is the owner of the artist’s retreat, 26 Split Rock Cove. She is a published poet and serves on the Education Committee at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.

     

  • Sarah Rogers
    Sarah Rogers Mentor/Lead Artist

    Mentor and Lead artist, Sarah Rogers is a community artist and producer for Camden International Film Festival (CIFF.) As the former after-school coordinator for RASA in Rockland, she worked in partnership with Broadreach as part of a 21st Century grant. Sarah collaborates on large-scale murals for Arts in Action, which brings students and community members together to beautify local neighborhoods.

  • Susan Beebe
    Susan Beebe Mentor Artist

    Mentor artist, Susan Beebe is a painter and teaching artist, who has taught in local schools and leads classes at Rockland Library. She has shown her work at Maine Coastal Islands Art Gallery, Jonathan Frost Gallery, at the Williams Club in NYC, and at Round Top in Damariscotta. Having attended Williams College, she received her degree from the Boston Museum School of the MFA in Boston.
